One peptide in two fill sizes, a 5 mg vial and a 10 mg vial, both lyophilised and both needing a solvent before use. Melanotan II is a cyclic alpha-MSH analogue and a non-selective melanocortin agonist, so a single amount reaches the pigment receptor MC1 and the central receptors MC3 and MC4 alike. No regulator has approved the substance and a human half-life has not been published. Vendor arithmetic gives 2.5 mg per ml for the small vial in 2 ml of water and 5 mg per ml for the large one, and as an unapproved substance it still falls under WADA class S0.

Product Overview

This card carries the two Melanotan II vials of the Dragon Pharma line: the 5 mg fill and the 10 mg fill. Both are the same cyclic alpha-MSH analogue as a lyophilised powder that has to be dissolved before use, and the label mass is the only difference between them.

Because the mass differs by a factor of two, the solvent arithmetic is the thing a buyer actually chooses between. The 5 mg vial is the smaller commitment and the one that suits a short pilot schedule; the 10 mg vial carries twice as much peptide and is the practical choice when the same amount is measured repeatedly.

Two warnings belong at the top rather than at the bottom. No regulator anywhere has approved this substance, and no published human half-life exists, so the figures below are either dilution arithmetic or amounts taken from a single small pilot study, not a validated protocol. As an unapproved substance it also falls under class S0 of the prohibited list, whatever the card is used for.

The Two Vial Sizes

Melanotan II 5 mg

The smaller fill. Mixed with two millilitres of solvent it lands at 2.5 mg per ml: a 250 microgram dose is ten units on a U-100 syringe, drawn up to the 0.1 ml mark. Reconstituting with 1 ml instead gives 5 mg per ml and 500 micrograms in the same draw, which is convenient but leaves less room for error.

Melanotan II 10 mg

The larger fill. Two millilitres of water on the 10 mg powder also yield 5 mg per ml, which puts 500 micrograms in every 0.1 ml. Once mixed the vial holds more solution, which is why the 10 mg size suits a schedule that runs for weeks.

5 mg + 2 mlStrength 2.5 mg per ml; each 0.1 ml holds 250 mcg, or 10 units
5 mg + 1 mlStrength 5 mg per ml; each 0.1 ml holds 500 mcg, or 10 units
10 mg + 2 mlStrength 5 mg per ml; each 0.1 ml holds 500 mcg, or 10 units

What the Peptide Acts On

Melanotan II is a cyclic analogue of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone and it is not selective. It activates the pigment receptor MC1, which drives melanogenesis in the skin, together with the central receptors MC3 and MC4, which is where appetite and erectile effects come from. That one molecule reaches all three is the reason its profile was never purely cosmetic.

The pharmacokinetics are the weak part of the record. Secondary reviews quote roughly one to two hours for the half-life, and a related peptide studied under the skin showed an absorption phase between about four minutes and three quarters of an hour, but none of that has been confirmed for this molecule in humans.

Published Research Amounts

The rows below are taken from a small published pilot and from dilution arithmetic. They describe an experiment rather than a protocol.

Pilot study0.025 mg per kg body weight, which for an 80 kg adult equals about 2 mg, or 0.4 ml of a 5 mg per ml solution
Pilot escalationStarting point 0.01 mg per kg, stepped up by 0.005 mg per kg in the same study design
AdministrationSubcutaneous after reconstitution with bacteriostatic water; the study used a small number of participants
DurationNo validated length of use appears in the sources
FemaleNo female protocol of any kind is described in the published material

Use Context and Combinations

The peptide is not stacked with anabolic products in any published work. What follows is catalogue context only.

Reconstitution
Melanotan II - either fill size + Bacteriostatic water
Add the water down the wall of the vial and swirl; shaking damages the peptide and creates foam that makes measurement unreliable
Sun exposure
Melanotan II - research context + Accutane - skin context
Regulators have warned about skin changes and about the absence of any safety data, so the sun exposure question belongs to a clinician rather than to a product page
Same category
Listed together because they share the peptide category, not because the combinations have been studied

What to Expect

  • Slow pigmentation. Studies describe colour change building across days of repeated exposure rather than after one injection.
  • Flushing and nausea. Both are described shortly after an amount is given, and both track the size of that amount.
  • Central effects. The MC4 receptor is why appetite and erectile changes appear in the same reports as the tanning effect.
  • Moles. Darkening or new pigmented lesions are the change regulators single out for medical review.
  • Limitation. One small pilot with a handful of participants is the entire human record for the amounts on this page.

Side Effects and Management

What follows is drawn from the same small studies and from regulator warnings about unapproved tanning peptides. None of it is a reported frequency for the catalogue vials.

NauseaDescribed within hours of an amount; smaller steps and a slower build reduce it.
Facial flushingTransient in the published reports; it follows the size of the step taken.
Spontaneous erections and libido changeA central MC4 effect rather than a local one; there is no dose that avoids it reliably.
Darkening of existing molesHave any change in a pigmented lesion reviewed by a clinician rather than monitoring it privately.
Unknown long term profileNo chronic safety data exist for the peptide; regulators cite this rather than a specific hazard.
Contaminated or mislabelled powderReconstitute carefully and discard a cloudy solution; there is no field test for the contents.

Status, Storage and Monitoring

The regulatory position is the same for either fill size and is worth repeating before the arithmetic is used. Related peptides from the same catalogue include Epitalon, TB-500 and GHK-Cu 10 mg.

Regulatory statusNot approved by any regulator; class S0 of the prohibited list covers unapproved substances
DetectionNo published detection window exists for the peptide in this form
PowderCold and dark; the lyophilisate is the stable form and the solvent is added only when needed
Mixed solutionRefrigerated, never frozen, and no exact expiry for the catalogue vial is confirmed
Skin reviewAny new or changing pigmented lesion belongs with a clinician, not with a supplier

Which Vial Size to Choose

The choice comes down to how many times the vial will be entered. A short pilot that ends after a few small amounts is cleaner from the 5 mg fill, because a smaller volume of mixed solution is easier to finish while it is still fresh. A schedule that runs across several weeks draws on the 10 mg fill, which at 2 ml gives the same 5 mg per ml as the smaller vial reconstituted with 1 ml.

Whichever is bought, the order should include Bacteriostatic water, and the arithmetic should be written down before the solvent goes in. Detection reads as not applicable on this page only because the material is a research peptide; the class S0 position and the absence of safety data remain the two facts that matter most.

This page is published for educational and research reference only. Melanotan II is sold here as a laboratory peptide, not as an approved medicine, tanning product or supplement, and every quantity quoted is either dilution arithmetic or a figure from a small published study rather than a human dose, a prescription or a recommendation. No regulator has approved the substance and no human pharmacokinetic profile has been established for it. Nothing on this page is medical advice. Keep all products away from children and follow the law where you live.
What is Melanotan II and how does it differ from PT-141?
Both come from the melanocortin family. Melanotan II is a cyclic alpha-MSH analogue that is not selective: it activates MC1 for pigment and MC3 and MC4 in the brain for appetite, libido and nausea. PT-141 is bremelanotide, a metabolite of Melanotan II that was developed further, received a licence for a specific indication and therefore has a different regulatory status.
Is Melanotan II approved anywhere?
No. Development as a medicine stopped in 2000 and no regulator has approved it since. Australia's TGA warns that tanning products containing melanotan are unapproved with unstable content, and the Skin Cancer Foundation advises against any use. In sport it is covered by WADA class S0 for unapproved substances.
How do you reconstitute a 5 mg or 10 mg Melanotan II vial?
Add bacteriostatic water down the wall of the vial and never shake it. Dissolve a 5 mg vial in 2 ml and every ml holds 2.5 mg, which puts 250 mcg under the ten-unit mark of an insulin syringe. Use 1 ml for that same vial, or 2 ml for the 10 mg vial, and each ml holds 5 mg, so the ten-unit mark carries 500 mcg. The tiny volumes involved make exact arithmetic more important than speed.
What did the only human study actually show?
It was a phase I pilot in three healthy men, published in 1996. Amounts started at 0.01 mg/kg subcutaneously and rose in 0.005 mg/kg steps to 0.025-0.03 mg/kg, with injections on weekdays for two weeks. Mild nausea appeared at most level, 0.03 mg/kg caused grade II drowsiness and fatigue in one man, erections were felt one to five hours after injection, and two men had deeper pigmentation of the face, upper body and buttocks a week after the course ended.
What side effects are reported with Melanotan II?
Nausea, vomiting, flushing of the face, drowsiness, yawning, stretching and reduced appetite are the everyday reports and they scale with the amount used. Erections, including painful prolonged erections, come from the MC4 route. Case literature also describes rhabdomyolysis and kidney injury after unapproved use, which is why muscle pain or dark urine is a stop signal rather than something to work through.
Does Melanotan II affect moles or the risk of melanoma?
Reversible darkening of existing moles and freckles is documented, and new nevi have been reported, so skin checks with photographic records matter. The melanoma question is not settled: the review material consulted for this card links the cases reported among users primarily to heavy ultraviolet exposure and sun-seeking behaviour, while not excluding a direct contribution from the peptide. That ambiguity is a reason for caution, not reassurance.
How long does Melanotan II stay active after injection?
Short, but without a firm number. No validated human pharmacokinetic profile exists for Melanotan II: secondary reviews quote roughly one to two hours, one source suggests about 33 minutes, and the closest analogue, melanotan-I, showed a subcutaneous beta phase of 0.8 to 1.7 hours. Reported effects begin within about an hour, which matches a fast clearance rather than a depot profile.
Is Dragon Pharma Melanotan II legit or are there fake batches around?
Counterfeit peptide vials are a real problem in this category, because a lyophilised powder gives a buyer nothing to inspect. What can be checked on the Dragon Pharma vials from this section is the printed peptide mass, the batch and expiry information and the seal, and the material should arrive with the brand packaging intact. Review threads are useful for delivery and packaging questions, but they cannot confirm what is in the powder.
